Red Dorking Chickens

My Red Dorking Chickens arrived in April 2024 from Stormin Norman's Heritage Red Dorkings in Ohio. He shipped 22 chicks. All 22 survived shipping and even though we had record high heat all summer, I didn't lose one chick! It was an even 50/50 split hens/roosters. This first year I've retained all 11 hens and narrowed the roosters down to 2 or 3 keepers.

Dorkings are an old breed developed in England. They are a medium to large dual purpose bird with a single or rose comb and five toes. They are excellent layers, laying 190 +/- eggs per year. Dorkings are know to lay through the winter months and will go broody. Yes, even in the winter! They are excellent mothers. 

Dorkings make a superb table bird and are known for their delicate and tender meat.
